Hazibags are proving ideal for BAM Nuttall and Mott MacDonald in their joint venture (BMMJV) to provide flood protection for the River Aire that runs through Leeds city centre in West Yorkshire.
Background
Leading civil engineering companies, BAM Nuttall and Mott MacDonald, are working on a joint venture (BMMJV) on behalf of Leeds City Council to provide flood protection for the River Aire that runs through Leeds city centre in West Yorkshire.
Both companies are committed to sustainable practices and ensuring the compliant management of waste on one of the largest river flood defence schemes in the country.
Managing waste on site
The nature of the flood alleviation works means several small sites are producing hazardous waste including spill response, used paint tins, mastic and resin containers.
With space restrictions, BMMJV is using 200 litre Hazibags to safely store hazardous materials during the project.
Benefits of Hazibag
BMMJV is benefitting from Hazibags in the following ways:
- 200 litre Hazibags provide an easy way to safely store hazardous materials in restricted areas enabling BMMJV to segregate their waste compliantly on site.
- Hazibags have provided BMMJV with a cost effective solution for the storage , transportation and disposal of their hazardous waste saving over 50% on previous disposal methods
- Being flat-packed, the bags minimise the storage space required when empty, the bags also reduce the need to store large amounts of material within the main site compound.
- Hazibags enable ‘messy’ waste such as spill kits to be stored without worry of leakage and with no need to transfer to another container for disposal.
- The bright orange bags are highly visible on site helping to draw attention to the workforce using them and ensure compliant waste management.
- Hazibag UK provides one central point of contact for all hazardous waste and ensures sites are compliant and adhering to current legislation.
Client feedback
“Hazibags are an easy way to safely store hazardous waste. They are also very visible on site, helping to draw the attention of the work force using them. The 200 litre bags have proved ideal for us with lots of small sites producing a number of different hazardous wastes. I have recommended Hazibags to our environmental advisor for further usage.”
